Mohammedan Sporting Club returned to winning ways in the Dhaka Premier League after three successive losses when they beat Prime Bank Cricket Club by one wicket in a thrilling contest in Mirpur on Monday.
Ariful Haque struck an unbeaten century as Mohammedan reached 247-9 in the last ball of their innings after they bowled out Prime Bank for 244 runs earlier in the day.
Needing six runs in the final over, Mohammedan lost three wickets, including two run outs, which nearly ended the game in a defeat for them.
But Ariful, who was unbeaten on 103 off 99 balls, kept his cool to hit Rubel Hossain a boundary in the last ball to finish the game off.
Arif received some useful support from national stalwart Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 50 off 63 balls and put 61 runs with the right-hander for the fifth wicket stand.
Earlier, Sabbir Rahman made 77 off 66 balls to give Prime Bank the backbone in their innings with Indian recruit Unmukt Chand (40) being the other significant scorer.
Shahidul Islam, Faisal Hossain, Enamul Haque jr and Naeem Islam each grabbed two wickets apiece for Mohammedan.
